Morecambe school merits a special mention

A huge thank you goes to the pupils of Morecambe Community High School who have raised £650 for the National Eczema Society over the last 12 months.

Each year pupils from the school’s four houses nominate a charity to raise money for. Thanks to a powerful presentation by Beth Cambidge (14), whose younger brother Luke (9) has suffered from severe eczema since birth, her house decided to convert the number of merits they were awarded throughout the school year into a generous donation to the Society.

A cheque was presented to Kathryn Humphreys, Events Organiser for the National Eczema Society, during the end of term assembly and both she and Beth gave a short talk on eczema and the charity’s work.

Following in his sister’s footsteps Luke and his school, Torrisholme Primary, have also recently raised £300 for the Society by holding a non uniform day and asking for a £1 donation from each participant. Mum Debra Boult adds: “I am very proud of both children and their desire to help others living with this incurable condition. I have been a member of the National Eczema Society for many years and the information and support I’ve received has been invaluable which is why it means so much to give something back.”

New Oldham support group looking for help

Parent Joanne Talbot has decided to set up a support group in Oldham as her son currently has eczema and she would like to offer local support for others, children and adults, with the condition.

Running a support group in your local area can be a rewarding challenge with continual support and advice available from the National Eczema Society. The opportunities to discuss new treatments and what it is like to live with eczema or care for someone with the skin condition can be both really helpful and rewarding. New eczema support groups that have flourished in 2009 include one in Worthing, Sussex which is going from strength to strength.

If you live in Oldham and the surrounding area and want to help an eczema support group get started then you can contact Joanne Talbot on 01457 820287 or email her at: talbotjem@aol.com.
