Eczema affects 20% of children in the UK and around 1 in 20 have severe disease. Uncontrolled eczema has a huge impact on a child’s quality of life. Itchiness leads to sleepless nights, difficulty concentrating and missing school. Children with severe eczema can also feel embarrassed about the appearance of their skin and have low self-esteem, sometimes even clinical depression. However, when eczema is well-managed it is possible to limit its impact on day-to-day life.
